Graphic Design III

Throughout my three years of doing graphic design, I have already learned an incredible amount of techniques to improve on my art. This class has really challenge me to think outside of the box and through my classmates I have seen different perspectives on the same project that later become my inspiration for my designs. This class has definitely made me grow as an artist and I feel as that is show in my work.

Target: The target for this poster was to create a music poster for the continental league honor music festival. Process & Planning: For this poster I got the feeling straight of the bat that it was going to be a very classical, simple, elegant poster design. When deciding my font I wanted fonts that would compliment each other and for one to be very bold, while the other to have a flow to it. With the information provide this concert seemed very professional to me so I used a violin because they have this simple, elegant feeling that I described earlier. Final Thoughts: I really enjoyed how this poster turned out. I like the simplicity of it and that it isn’t to over done.

Target: This project was to create a new typeface that describes us or has characteristics that we like in a typeface. Process & Planning: For planning, I began by writing the alphabet in my sketchbook in multiple different handwritings. From there, I found a website that you can take a very simple, boring font and make it your own. I picked my favorite style of writing that I used in my sketchbook and based my font on that. With the low crossbars to the simple squeezed together letters, this is my font because it looks like my handwriting and it's everything I like in a typeface. Final thoughts: If I could do anything differently in this poster I think I would try to find a website where you can scan in your handwriting and it creates a personalized typeface so that it does feel more like me.

Target: The target for this poster was to create the school’s play, Almost, Maine, in a new way that would capture what the play was about. Process & Planning: I started this design by drawing 5 thumbnail sketches in my sketchbook and decided on the one that most felt like the play to me. From there I went on Illustrator and decided on fonts, colors and different layouts that went well with the northern lights and Maine outline. Final Thoughts: All in all I really like designing this poster. I felt like it turned out really well and capture all the major things that they wanted in the poster. If I could do it all over again, I would probably change around that format I used with the dates and prices.

Target: Design symbols that would represent the numbers 10, 11, and 12 in a font Process & Planning: When researching fonts I decided to go with Didot because it was a font I have seen before but one I never really used. Shades of pink and white were the colors popping into my mind when I started to create my poster. I decided on these colors because the font feels simple and those colors are simple to me. The symbols took some trial and error, but I ended up with these three. I wanted to keep the curve that a lot of the numbers have and the straight edges. Final thoughts: This poster in my opinion was very successful. I like the simplicity to it and i think the colors go well with the chosen font. If I could change anything, I would change the symbol for eleven. I feel that the symbol doesn’t go as well with the ten and twelve symbol.

Target: This assignment, I had to create a logo for the school’s performing arts. Process & Planning: I did sketch ideas in my sketchbook for this assignment, but I didn’t think any of them were successful. I ended up using a drama mask, music notes, and a dancer to create the design. I was trying to keep the design simple so I only used the school color and stayed with one font. Final Thoughts: I don’t think this was my best logo. I think it’s clean and simple, but at the same time it’s a bit boring.

Target: The target for this assignment was to create homecoming TV screen to hang up around the school so everyone would know what the spirit day was that day. Process & Planning: For each screen I choose things that remind me of New York. (The Statue of Liberty, Broadway Musicals, etc.) These ideas lead me to the creation of the different screens. Final Thought: I really liked how all of theses screens turned out. I think they flow together nicely and successfully captured what the school wanted in the designs.

Target: The purpose of this assignment was to create a unique packaging design for a product. Process & Planning: I decided to do a candle company and came up with the name and logo. I don't really know how I came up with the overall packaging design, but I saw a candle packing in a ring box type of box and went from there. I drew 5 thumbnail sketches of different packaging idea and from there I choose my favorites and tested out different layouts and color schemes. Final Thoughts: If I were to do this assignment again I would choose something that would really push my creativity. I think it turned out nice and simple which is what I was looking for, but it wasn’t quite what I was envisioning.
